Press Releases Tenrox Release 10 Simplifies On-Demand Project Management Software
New release offers significant innovations to simplify flat world project management, capacity planning, and operational effectiveness
Glendale, California - September 23, 2008
Tenrox announces the availability of Release 10 – the latest version of the company's on-demand Project Workforce Management Solution. The new release marks a significant milestone in offering an ideal tool to simplify, facilitate and accelerate project management and resource planning. Tenrox demonstrates its commitment to providing the ultimate SaaS (software as a service) solution for project cost accounting and project billing by adding features such as a new, more user-friendly interface with quick links, easy search and shortcuts, patent-pending Timesheet Designer technology, ad-hoc reporting, and a graphical workflow engine based on Microsoft Workflow Foundation along with a multitude of other productivity enhancements.
“A dispersed mobile global workforce executing projects for customers all over the world—this is just the nature of business today.” said Rafat Hilal, Vice President of Research and Development, Tenrox. “Based on years of customer feedback and our analysis of the business issues they face, we have invested in significant innovations to substantially simplify, automate and optimize our customers’ project management and resource planning processes.”
New features in Release 10: A New Highly Intuitive User Interface

The new user interface facilitates user navigation and offers fast access to all key or frequently used processes. Web pages, grids, icons and styles have been redesigned to be more intuitive and visually appealing. Configurable menus and options enable you to create a highly focused application for a specific type of user or role within your organization. Tenrox Release 10 leverages ASP.NET, Microsoft Workflow Foundation, Communication Foundation for Web Services data management, AJAX, and JSON to provide fast scalable application performance and a smooth user experience.
Patent Pending Timesheet Designer Technology
Every company has its timesheet format and time reporting policies. To make things even more challenging, a company may have different timesheets for various departments. For example, the timesheet used by exempt R&D or IT resources for project progress reporting will be very different from the timesheet used by non-exempt administrative resources, while a professional-services team invoicing customers for their time may have yet another entirely different timesheet view and time reporting needs. Similarly, a user changing departments may be asked to report time with a different timesheet view and policy.
The Tenrox Timesheet has been completely redesigned from the ground up to provide significant flexibility and reduced implementation times. With Tenrox Timesheet Designer all programming, hard coding and customizations are eliminated. The Timesheet Designer transforms the tailoring process from a costly customization and programming effort into a configuration task.
Graphical Workflow Engine based on Microsoft Workflow Foundations
The new Tenrox workflow engine has been architected based on the Microsoft Workflow Foundation. This new generation workflow is part of a two phase plan to make all Tenrox workflows totally standards-based. In Phase I, timesheet workflows have been designed to leverage the new workflow architecture. Microsoft Workflow Foundation provides considerable out-of-the-box workflow capabilities such as routing, escalation, assignment, mapping, notification, and other workflow services. Building on the new workflow architecture, Tenrox will leverage these services to provide a common, standard and familiar model for clients to visually model and manage all their project- and workforce- related approval workflows.
Ad-Hoc Reporting and Data Security
A new ad-hoc reporting tool offers users a quick and easy way to create custom
data views and extracts. You can select the data items and fields you want included in the report, apply any filters and your report is immediately ready for review or export. With a new Project Data Security function, you can set view rights per project for specific users, so that project managers and users see reports only on data they have access to.
Other enhancements include:
Project Planning
Tenrox Project Planning makes planning a simple and efficient task. New enterprise features allow project managers to work on a plan offline, and to collaborate with others using check in/check out and update functions. Other enhancements include the addition of multiple project baselines.
Collaborative Workforce Planning
With task-based Resource Planning you can schedule resources against a project at the task level. Release 10 completely integrates Project Planning with the Workforce Planning module, allowing managers to view and book available resources for a particular project to create a project team. Work plan notifications notify resources when they have been added to or removed from a project work plan.
Cost & Revenue Accounting – Project Billing
Revenue Manager, an optional component of the Tenrox Cost and Accounting module, defines project-based revenue recognition policies including time and material, percentage complete and fixed price scenarios. The Tenrox system then reports on project revenue and automatically makes accounting adjustments as projects are billed.
Timesheet Management – Partial Approval
Make approved time entries available for immediate billing while rejected project time entries go back to the user for corrections and subsequent review. With mid-week or partial approval for timesheets, a project manager can approve his/her projects in full or partially. The approved entries are immediately available for invoicing without waiting for other managers to approve. Also a manager can partially approve a timesheet by approving the time reported for one project while rejecting the time entered for another.
Expense Reporting: Expense entries can be reported against projects only or against a project/task. You can now choose to apply client tax on expenses for billing and tax recovery purposes.
Charges & Products: Approve project charges and product-related transactions. Product entry now supports a cost currency different from the customer billing currency.
Mobile and Offline Access
Mobile and offline features allow users to submit their timesheets and expense reports while traveling or out of the office. Tenrox provides the following mobility options:
Tenrox Mobile for Windows CE: Enter and approve timesheets and expense reports on any Windows CE device. Work offline and sync with a Tenrox server when a connection is available.
Tenrox Desktop: Provides you with a .NET application that you can use on your laptop or any other small computer running Windows. Tenrox Desktop offers the same offline and synchronization functions as Tenrox Mobile for Windows CE.
Additional enhancements to the core system include:
- Full Unicode support allows data entry and display in any character set and native language, including languages such as Chinese and Japanese. Tenrox software is currently available in English and French. User entry pages are also available in Spanish.
- On-Demand Single Sign-on authenticates users using a Web service, eliminating the need to maintain multiple logins, passwords and user directories so that users do not have to login to multiple systems.
- Redesigned Tenrox Automation Service in .NET simplifies background processing of project milestones, notifications, holiday management and leave time accruals, as well as other background tasks.
- Tenrox on-premise database server and administration functions are certified on 64-bit Windows.
